My name is Yinying. I recently earned my MSc degree in Industrial Design from Eindhoven University of Technology, where I worked with Dr. Steven Houben and Dr. Hans Brombacher.

My Master's research centers on a vision of translating data into creative and interactive means for users to understand and interact with. I approach this vision by working on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), tangible/hybrid user interfaces, and physical computing. More specifically, I focus on investigating the design space of data physicalization to combine these cross-disciplinary fields in my design research. I build and evaluate data-driven research artifacts through hands-on making, user-centered research, and technological realizations. By proposing new interaction techniques and exploring design spaces through contextual and theoretical explorations, my goal is to enable deeper conceptual and theoretical understanding of how we interact with data. Learn more about my research through projects that I have done.

My interest in HCI has brought me to collaborate with my supervisors for a few ongoing conference submissions based on my projects, mainly towards ACM DIS and TEI. At the same time, I have been engaged in supporting BSc courses and project squads as a Teaching Assistant, as well as acting as a council member for both departmental bodies and study associations. Find out more here.

I am currently exploring PhD opportunities in Europe/US in the field of HCI. I am genuinely interested in topics of Tangible/Hybrid User Interfaces, tangible/hybrid interactions, and data-driven approaches. Meanwhile, I am open to combine these topics with other research domains to enrich interactions and user experiences (e.g., AI, XR).
